American Robin Watching in Oregon

The American Robin is a large songbird that is among the more common birds throughout the United States, and they live in great numbers in Oregon. While some of their population heads south to Mexico for the winter, many others live year round in the state, though not always in the same areas.With their distinctive orange breast and typically ranging between 8 and 11 inches long, the American Robin has a varied diet, which changes as the day goes on. They are famous for digging earthworms out of lawns in mornings, and in the afternoon they are more commonly eating fruit. During spring and summer they are known to sing almost continuously, so you might hear them long before you see them.

American Robins occupy many different types of habitats in Oregon. They are often found in parks and on golf courses as well as in residential yards and forest areas. They are commonly found in the Tualatin National Wildlife Refuge, in especialy high numbers during spring and summer, and they are one of the species that actively breed in Oregon.
