Black-capped Chickadee Watching in Oregon

The Black-capped Chickadee is a non-migratory songbird bird that is common throughout most of the northern United States and southern Canada, including many in Oregon. As adults they are about 4 or 5 inches long, and their cheeks are white while the rest of their heads are black. They have a very short neck, which gives the bird an almost round shape.During summer the Black-capped Chickadee will primarily eat insects, spending most of the day hopping around on tree branches searching for them. In the colder months their diet relies more on seeds and nuts, and they'll often store them when they are abundant for eating later on. These birds are also very common at bird feeding stations in backyards, especially during winter.
