H. Terpenning Complex

It’s Not About How You Play the Game, It’s Where

Welcome to Washington County, Oregon, an expansive 727 square miles of scenic beauty boasting some of the state’s most prestigious natural venues and award-winning athletic complexes. Oregon wine country's vineyards and valleys, as well as forests and lakes, provide breathtaking venues for endurance-testing adventure races and triathlons.
Professional golf and disc golf tournaments are held on nationally renowned courses just minutes from our state-of-the-art high school facilities and first-class athletic complexes.

Amateur and Professional Sporting Events

Exceptional sports facilities, dedicated parks and recreation and WCVA staff members, and affordable lodging have made the region one of the most sought-after locations for tournaments and events. The county’s world-class facilities attract some of the country’s most prominent events, such as the Ladies Professional Golf Association’s (LPGA) Safeway Classic and the Amateur Softball Association’s 14A Western National Championship.

Endurance Sports

Planners-Sports_triathlonWashington County continues its tradition of attracting and hosting regional and national endurance sporting events, such as triathlons, cycling events and adventure races. Forests, lakes, moderate temperatures, rolling hills and valley flatlands provide terrain and scenic beauty that are conducive to both amateurs and professionals.

Washington County’s pristine and natural venues have set the stage for events such as the USA Triathlon Championship Race and Congress, the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s LIVESTRONG Challenge, and Red Frog Event’s Warrior Dash Oregon.

Leisure Sports

Outdoor recreation enthusiasts also can find their own nirvana in the rural wetlands, nature parks, forests and wildlife refuges of Washington County. The region boasts hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails, including the 21-mile Banks-Vernonia State Trail, part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a non-profit organization whose mission is to create multi-use recreational trails from former rail lines.

Golf

Twelve public and semi-private golf courses are available for play in Washington County, with courses ranging from executive nine-hole to 18-hole games.  The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club and Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club are among the most prestigious championship courses in the state, and have both hosted some of the biggest names in professional golf.

Disc Golf

A popular newcomer to the outdoor sports and recreation scene is disc golf, a game in which players throw a Frisbee-like disc into a basket or at a target, and with a scoring system similar to golf, where the object is to get the lowest score possible. In Washington County, there are plenty of locations to hone your disc golfing skills.

One of the newest disc golf attractions in the nation is at Horning’s Hideout, which boasts the first and largest number of PDGA-certified disc golf courses in one location west of PDGA headquarters in Georgia, with three 18-hole championship courses (for a total of 54 holes). Another championship disc golf course is expected to open at L.L. “Stub” Stewart Park in 2011.

A HOST OF OTHER ADVENTURES

Play doesn’t just stop here; rock climbers can belay and repel through puzzles of climbing holds in the Adventure Center at ClubSport Oregon, the largest indoor rock climbing wall in the Northwest.  Skaters can get their vert on at one of the area skate parks, and bowlers can aim for a turkey at one of the area’s seven bowling facilities, including Big Al’s, the newest entertainment hot spot to hit the region.

Swing through the Oregon forests at Tree to Tree Aerial Adventure Park, a playground in the trees for all ages featuring aerial ropes courses, zip lines and treetop obstacles.  If it’s an indoor adrenaline rush you seek, bounce off the walls at Sky High Sports, where 360 degrees of trampolines provides endless fun for kids and adults.

No matter your sport of choice, chances are you will find the adventure you seek in Washington County.
