Rainy-Day Activites For Kids

It's no secret that it rains a lot in the Pacific Northwest. Sometimes, it may interfere with your outdoor plans while visiting Oregon's Washington County. But never fear, a host of indoor, kid-friendly attractions and activities await. We've done our homework and gathered the top seven rainy-day activities for families.

  1. Enjoy an afternoon of pizza and play at John's Incredible Pizza (9180 SW Hall Blvd., Beaverton). Inventive pizza (spicy peanut butter pizza, anyone?), rides and arcade games makes this a sure bet for families with kids of all ages. Plus, a sports-themed room equipped with big-screen TVs will satisfy the sports fanatics, too.
  2. Bowl a turkey at Big Al's (14950 SW Barrows Rd., Beaverton). This huge entertainment center holds a bowling, arcade, snack bar and sports bar/restaurant, plus a golf-themed lounge for the over-21 set. Families can easily spend hours here; the trick is getting them to leave. (See the list of all bowling lanes in Oregon's Washington County.)
  3. Older kids and teens can into the action at Laserport (6540 SW Fallbrook Pl., Beaverton). The kids can enjoy laser tag and arcade games, while the parents can grab a cocktail in the restaurant/bar.
  4. Kids bouncing off the walls? They can, literally, at Sky High Sports (1131 SW Greenburg Rd., Tigard), which is like one giant trampoline. Open to all ages, visitors can jump to their hearts' content, or catch a game of dodgeball.
  5. Another fun activity for older kids and teens is indoor rock climbing at Stoneworks Climbing Gym (6775 SW 11th Ave., Beaverton), which is one of the largest climbing gyms in the region.
  6. For younger kids who aren't quite ready for a climbing gym, can belay at Out of this World Pizza and Play (6255 NW Century Blvd., Hillsboro). This space-aged attraction has a bouldering wall (as well as bouncy houses) specifically for  the younger set.
  7. Also for kids aged 2-12 is the new Outdoors In Park at the Plaza (124 E. Main St., Hillsboro), an indoor full-size playground complete with slides, bouldering wall and a "whole-body" electronic gaming system.

Don't let the rain ruin your Washington County getaway. These indoor activities will have you and your kids wanting to come back again.
