Rainy-Day Activities for Adults

Don't let the rain get you down. For those who'd rather stay indoors rather than play in the Pacific Northwestern rain, we have the ultimate guide to rainy-day activities for adults. (Need suggestions for the under-21 crowd? Check out our list of seven rainy-day activities for kids.)

Grab a brew made right here in Oregon's Washington County at one of several brewies and brew pubs in the area.

Catch a flick in style at the new Cinetopia (12345 SW Horizon Blvd, Beaverton), a first-run movie theater with ultra-luxurious seating, wine and beer options and pre-movie dining service in some theaters. It's an experience unlike any other.

Don't feel like driving through wine country in the rain? Why not stop at a wine bar or wine shop with tasting rooms. Most feature local wines, plus wines from around the globe. (Too early for wine? Why not spend some time at one of Washington County's fabulous, local coffee houses?)

Spend hours at the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals, pictured, (26385 NW Groveland, Hillsboro), which boasts a spectacular collection of crystals, meteroites, petrified woods, gems and more from around the world.

Discover new artists. Washington County has several art galleries filled with art from emerging artists, as well as established artists throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Create your own work of art at Live, Laugh, Love Glass (12230 SW Main St., #B, Tigard), a new glass-blowing studio which offers group and individual instruction on how to create glass works of art.

Browse the vast selection of books at Powell's Book at Cedar Hills Crossing (3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd., Beaverton), a smaller version of the immense Powell's City of Books in downtown Portland. At 32,500 square feet and housing more than 500,000 used, new, rare and hard-to-find titles, bibliophiles can get lost in this amazing store.

And if a little rain doesn't prevent you from exploring the great outdoors, there are dozens of outdoor activties that are open rain or shine. So, kick off your rain boots (or put them on), and explore the indoor wonders of Oregon's Washington County.
